Rights and Responsiblities when purchasing something as simple as a gift or as complex as a car or new home.

 

REFUNDS AND EXCHANGES

 

When purchasing be aware that the refund and exchange policy varies  from store to store. When purchasing have the store put its return and exchange policy in writing on your invoice. Some  stores display their policies, however, Ontario law  does not require retailers to post their policy and is only done as a courtesy.  Generally sale items are purchased  as is and do not qualify for refund or exchange; nevertheless some stores will exchange items or give a credit slip to maintain customer goodwill. Finally, some stores have a time limit for refunds and exchanges. You should keep this in mind if the gift you purchase may not be opened for some time.

 

Legal right to cancel a contract in Ontario:

 

A contract signed in your home: 10 working days

 

Health club: 10 working days.

 

All else: no right to cancel unless product is defective
