The Mission Statement

Our Mission is to promote and foster the highest ethical relationship between businesses and the public through voluntary self-regulation, consumer and business education, and service excellence.

What is the BBB?

The Better Business Bureau of Windsor & Southwestern Ontario is an independent, self-governing, non-profit organization established by members of our business community. Its aim is to encourage self-regulation, to promote truth in advertising and selling and is dedicated to the building and preservation of public confidence in legitimate business. The 16 Canadian Better Business Bureaus are coordinated through the Better Business Bureau of Canada and the Council of Better Business Bureaus in the United States which has more than 150 Bureaus. This information link enables us to provide continental coverage.

Code of Ethics

To serve the public with honest values.
To be truthful regarding goods and service rendered.
To honor guarantees offered.
To strive to ensure that the normal use of merchandise or services offered will not be hazardous to public health.
To advertise and sell merchandise or services on their merit.
To avoid all devices and schemes which prey upon human ignorance and gullibility.
To refrain from the use of unethical business practices.
To be sympathetic with the complaints and criticisms of the buying public.
To maintain a healthy business environment by reinforcing mutual respect and openness between customer and merchant.
To encourage communication and cooperation among Better Business Bureau members.

Criteria for Becoming an Accredited Business of the BBB

This directory contains a list of firms that have met Better Business Bureau of Windsor & Southwestern Ontario standards and was compiled as of Feb 07, 2006.

To be an Accredited Business of the Better Business Bureau of Windsor & Southwestern Ontario an applicant must:

Be in business for a minimum of 6 months.
Have a satisfactory record of performance according to Bureau files.
The company is not the subject of any government action.
Adhere to the Bureau's code of ethics.
Must be located in Essex/Kent County
Meet personally with Bureau staff
Be approved unanimously by the Board of Directors.
The Better Business Bureau of Windsor & Southwestern Ontario does not endorse specific products or services; neither does it suggest that these firms are the only businesses in Windsor and Essex County able to meet its standards.
